MORATA: I DIDN’T ASK RAMOS FOR THE PENALTY BECAUSE HE ALWAYS WANTS TO SCORE.

Sergio Ramos congratulates Alvaro Morata after scoring.

Alvaro Morata was grateful

for Sergio Ramos‘ decision to

gift him a penalty in Spain’s 3-0

win over Sweden on Monday

night.

The Real Madrid and Spain

captain had already converted

from the spot but with five

minutes to play, and the score

still at 1-0, the hosts were

awarded another when the

defender decided to pass on the

responsibility.

With his own strike, Ramos

netted his 20th for Spain and

drew himself to within two goals

of being international football’s

highest scoring defender in

history, also placing himself 11th

in his country’s rankings.

“It was his decision. I didn’t ask

him because he always wants to

score,” Morata said after the

game.

“It was a very nice gesture that

I’ll always be grateful to him for.

“To not ask but for him to give it

to me, the pleasure is doubled.

He knows what I think of him.”

Although the performance wasn’t

necessarily the best, the points

were the priority.

“These games are harder than

they look,” the forward

continued.

Sweden are a great team and

they played well. They’re very

defensive and they looked to hit

us on the counter-attack.

“We played well, defended well

and we’re very happy.”

The last two seasons haven’t been

the easiest for Morata but now

settled at Atletico Madrid, he’s

keen to push on for club and

country.

“Now it’s time to take a step

forward with Atleti and the

national team,” he said.

“It’s time to be in a quiet place

with ambition.

“I want to stay [at Atleti] for as

long as possible”.
